Counseling & Therapy Services

Counseling has been the foundation of services at Family Service since its inception. In addition to individual, family, couple and group counseling offered at all Family Service locations, counseling is provided at schools in the Long Beach, Downey, Bellflower and ABC Unified School Districts.

In therapy, a strong interpersonal relationship is developed between the client and therapist and the goals for the therapy program are agreed upon. The overall goal of our therapy programs is to increase a sense of well-being in our clients and encourage them to reach their full potential while improving relationships and coping with life challenges.

A range of techniques are employed including cognitive therapy to facilitate behavioral change, self-awareness strategies and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.  Therapy may address specific forms of diagnosable mental illness, everyday problems in managing or maintaining interpersonal relationships or meeting personal goals. Therapy for families with children can favorably influence a child’s emotional and social development and educational success.
